Teacher Professional Competency Testing and Assessment of Knowledge and Professional Experience

1. The testing and the assessment are divided into two parts:

1.1 A testing is to measure teachers’ professional competency in knowledge and professional experience under the profession standards which comprises four subjects as follows:

(1) Teaching Profession   (2) Thai Language for Communication    (3) English for Communication    (4) Digital Technology for Education

      - Multiple choice questions and short answers/essay questions are used for subject (1). 

      - Multiple choice questions are used for subject (2) - (4).

1.2 The assessment is to evaluate teachers’ professional competence in both work performance and personal conduct according to professional standards. In order to measure and evaluate competency on performance and performance and personal conduct in three areas, an evaluation form shall be used.

 (1) Learning Management     

 (2) Parents and Community Relations

 (3) Performance of teachers’ duties and professional code of ethics.

 

2. Why do teachers need to participate in the testing and assessment?

The teachers’ professional competency testing and assessment is one of qualifications for those who would like to hold the teacher professional license as mentioned in Regulation of the Teachers’ Council of Thailand Regarding Professional licensure B.E.2562 (2019).

 

3. Qualifications of the testing and assessment candidates

3.1 Thai nationality or foreigner

3.2 Satisfying one of the following requirements:

3.2.1 Candidates who hold not lower than a degree in education or its equivalent that is accredited by the Teachers’ Council of Thailand, graduated in Thailand and attended a program since the academic year B.E.2562 (2019) onward;

3.2.2 Candidates who hold a degree from an overseas, attended a program since academic year 2019 onward and achieved a degree equivalency assessment by government agencies and satisfy one of the following requirements :

1. A degree in education or its equivalent;

2. A bachelor’s degree in another field and a graduate diploma in teaching profession with 1 year of course study

3.2.3 Candidates, who are studying in the educational degree program or equivalent as accredited  by the Teachers’ Council of Thailand to use as the qualification for applying for the teaching professional license, since the academic year 2019 onwards and studying in educational institution that has been granted an academic qualification equivalency by a state agency and submitted the data to The Secretariat Office of the Teachers’ council of Thailand, with satisfying one of the following requirements:

1. The third year student who is studying a degree in education

2. The second year student who is studying in a graduate diploma in teaching profession

 

The Criteria for transferring Testing and Assessment Results

Both Thai nationality and foreigner are able to use scores from the test package and venue for the mapping of Teacher Professional Competency Testing and Assessment results on knowledge and professional experience based on teacher professional standards for two subjects without fee. These two subjects are as follows: (1) Thai Language for Communication  (2) English for Communication

The evaluation is divided into three areas.

(1) Learning Management    (2) Parents and Community Relations   (3) Performance of Teachers’ Duties and Professional Code of Ethics.

The score criteria and the duration for the availability of the result for the Teacher Professional Competency Testing and Assessment

Pass criteria

  • The candidate for the Teacher Professional Competency Testing and Assessment should have a score not lower than 60% of all the tested subjects. In case of submission for an equivalency of the result shall be followed a resolution passed by the Teachers’ Council of Thailand Board.
  • Each of assessment aspects must not be less than 60 percentages.

The availability of the result

  • The score of each subject is effective for three (3) years from the day of the results’ announcement; otherwise, it is considered as an ineffective score and the candidate shall need to retake the Teacher Professional Competency Testing and Assessment again.
  • The assessment result is available until the registration request for granting teacher license is approved.
