On 29th March 2021, Deputy Education Minister, Khunying Kalaya Sophonpanich, Ph.D., Mr. Kittirat Mungkalakeeree (Chairman of NIETS Board),  Asst.Prof. Sirida Burachat, Ph.D., (NIETS Director) visited tests scoring center for subjective tests at Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University. Committee of the University Council, acting for President of Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University, Assoc. Prof.Pranee Sungkatavat, Ph.D., warmly welcomed them.

Deputy Education Minister, Khunying Kalaya Sophonpanich, Ph.D., said that this is the fifth year that NIETS has applied a subjective format to the grade 6 O-NET of Thai language for students to practice their skills; reading, writing, critical thinking and summarize the main idea. She also recommended that it should apply the subjective format of the test to other subjects, especially in the era of human development into the 21st century then need to train children to have systematic thinking in accordance with the urgent government policy in the process for applying the coding subject at all levels. The coding learning will make children able to think critically systematically and to solve problems in a step-by-step. If students studied any subject, then they should able to apply the studied subjects to solve the problem, be useful for daily life, and correlated to the good culture and traditions of Thailand. She also thanks and encourage to all the teachers participated the training in scoring of subjective test and thanks to all universities as being the subjective test centers and follow in accordance with NIETS standards.

Director of NIETS said that the grade 6 O-NET of Thai language for academic year 2020 in a subjective test format has 2 questions out of totally score 20 points such as article 33; to write stories from pictures and article 34; to summarize the main ideas of reading passage by measuring the content of writing in accordance with standards 2.1 using the process of writing, communicating, writing essays, summarizing and writing stories in different formats, writing information reports and reports on independent study efficiency. NIETS received the support from 6 university test centers, namely as follow: (1) Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University, (2) Burapha University, (3) Silpakorn University. (Sanam Chan Palace campus), (4) Khon Kaen University, (5) Prince of Songkla University, and (6) Naresuan University as being the test centers for the academic year 2020. For this academic year, there are 555,635 grade 6 O-NET examinees with 2,222,540 subjective answer papers, and approximately 1,200 teachers as inspectors (1 answer sheet with 2 teachers) which divided into 2 sectors: 1) there are 700 teacher inspectors for item no.33, and 500 teacher inspectors for item no.34. The subjective test center of Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University is the first of all test centers which examined item no.33; to write a story from a picture and item no.34; to write a summary of the main idea of the reading by starting the scoring implementation between 29th March – 4th April 2021. The amounts of answer papers have 367,000 sheets with all 200 inspectors. After scoring the subjective test of each test center, NIETS will collect Thai language usage of grade 6 students from answering the O-NET subjective test to reflect the schools, teachers, students and stakeholders take results to be used to improve and develop teaching and learning method better. NIETS will announce grade 6 O-NET results on April 21st, 2021 at NIETS website, www.niets.or.th.

            Acting for President of Acting for President of Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University, Assoc.Prof.Pranee Sungkatavat, Ph.D., said that our university is very pleased due to the subjective test center of Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University is the first test center that implementing to score the subjective tests. It is an important opportunity to facilitate the scoring of subjective test in terms of location, equipment, technology and facilities in accordance with the national educational testing standards.
