Khunying Kalaya Sophonpanic visited O-NET testing field for grade 6 students in the 2021 academic year at Prayathai School.

The National Institute of Educational Testing Service (Public Organization) conducted O-NET for students in the 2021 academic year on Saturday 12th February 2022, at all testing fields.

The Deputy Education Minister (Khunying Kalaya Sophonpanich), the Director of National Institute of Educational Testing Service (Public Organization) (Asst.Prof. Sirida  Burachat, Ph.D.), the Deputy Director of Bureau of Educational Testing, Office of the Basic Education Commission, (Chanatip Tuipae, Ph D.), the Director of Bangkok Primary Educational Service Area Office, (Pichet Wanthong, Ph D.) and team visited the O-NET testing-field for grade 6 students at Phayathai School with the school director (Peeranud Chaipidech, Ph D.) and teachers’ welcoming.

After visiting the testing field, the Deputy Education Minister (Khunying Kalaya Sophonpanich) said that today is the examination date of O-NET for grade 6 students and they applied for the test with their pleasure. She is glad to hear that 90% of students would like to take O-NET in order to test their knowledge. There are 4 subjects in O-NET which are Thai language, English language, Mathematics and Science. Students can use the test result for personal improvement plan while the schools can use the test results for teaching development.

NIETS was able to conduct O-NET smoothly and everyone in this testing field followed the preventive measures against COVID-19 announced by NIETS and the Ministry of Health strictly.

Asst.Prof. Sirida  Burachat, Ph.D., said that  there are 535,210 O-NET test-takers in grade 6 in the 2021 academic year (4,804 testing fields and 24,138 exam rooms) This year, NIETS pilots O-NET with the digital testing for grade 6 students. There are 102 test-takers, who are from 4 schools which are 18 students from Ban Nong Kham Border Patrol Police School, 27 students from Naresuan Palau Border Patrol Police School, 35 students from Cognis Thai Border Patrol Police School and 22 students from Ban Khuan Thai Border Patrol Police School. Moreover, NIETS also start using an essay test type in O-NET of Thai language for grade 6 students from the 2016 academic year to present. According to an analysis of the test result and the essay test type answer sheet of Thai language, it is found that the test led students to improve their reading, writing, analyzing and cohesion skills and they also practiced writing, skimming, summarizing, looking for main ideas, ability to integrate thinking and communicated in written language with their own words. The essay test type of Thai language in the 2021 academic year of grade 6 students comprises 2 items (20 marks) which are writing based on a provided picture and summarizing the main idea of a text.

To conduct O-NET during the COVID-19 situation, NIETS has followed measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 issued by the Ministry of Health and related departments rigidly and the test-takers’ safe is significantly concerned. NIETS made a letter to cooperate with the Ministry of Public Health, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, all governors and the Center for COVID-19 Situation Administration to inform the examination schedules and the preventive measure as well as requesting for corporation to contact and inform related department or person in order to facilitate and control testing fields to follow the preventive measure. Moreover, NIETS prescribed measures against the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19) in the educational test in the year 2021 academic in which examinees, staff at the fields and people who are around the field follow the guideline strictly; for example, cleaning the testing field, providing temperature measurements, using hand sanitizer, wearing cloth or face mask, arranging test rooms with social distancing and else.

NIETS will announce O-NET of grade 6 students’ result on 24th March, 2022 on www.niets.or.th. Students, schools and affiliations bring the result for planning their teaching, improving and developing quality of teaching and enhance better leaning achievement.
