The Minister of Education (Police General Permpoon Chidchob) visited the O-NET examination for secondary level 3 at Suankularb Wittayalai School.

On Sunday, February 11, 2024, the Minister of Education (Police General Permpoon Chidchob), the Director of National Institute of Educational Testing Service (Public Organization) (Asst. Prof. Sirida Burachat, Ph.D.), the Director of the Bureau of Educational Testing, the Office of the Basic Education Commission (Chanathip Tuipae, Ph.D.) the Director of the Secondary Educational Service Area Office Bangkok 1 (Niyom Paisopa, Ph.D.) and the working team visited an examination hall of the Ordinary National Educational Test (O-NET) for secondary level 3 in the fiscal year 2023 at Suankularb Wittayalai School. The director of school (Jinnapat Piboonvititthamrong, Ph.D.) and teachers gave a warm welcome to all visitors and there were 383 testing participants using paper pencil form.

The O-NET testing for secondary level 3 had a total 475,375 participants, consisting of

  • Paper pencil form, 463,655 participants, 4,151 examination halls, and 17,261 exam rooms
  • Digital testing system, 11,720 participants, 190 examination halls, and 403 exam rooms

NIETS operated testing in two patterns, which were paper pencil, and a digital testing system for the examination hall that was ready to have a computer set and internet network. This was the cooperation from the secondary educational service area office, the primary educational service area office, the provincial education office, the Office of the Private Education Commission, the Department of Education Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, and the Bureau of Education Pattaya as examination halls.

In the exam, was composed of 4 subjects, as follows:

(1) Thai language, total 30 questions; the objective exam was 25 questions with 4 choices for 1 answer, 4 questions had 5 choices for 2 answers, and the subjective exam was 1 question. The subjective exam would measure standard of reading, writing, analysis thinking, main idea comprehension, idea linking, target analysis of passage, including author’s desire identification and reasons supported for comment.

(2) Mathematics, total 20 questions; the objective exam was 16 questions with 4 choices for 1 answer, and 4 questions had to daub a color on a number as an answer.

(3) Science, total of 35 questions; the objective exam was 32 questions with 4 choices for 1 answer, the remaining 3 questions were in complex form.

(4) English language, total of 32 questions, the exam had only 4 choices for 1 answer.

NIETS has managed our missions to conform to the Ministry of Education’s main emphasis and policy of learning “Anywhere Anytime” by the Minister of Education (Police General Permpoon Chidchob). We developed an online system for subjective exam checking that can reduce time spent marking papers, save costs, effectively mark papers, have an accurate score and validity, and allow teachers to work and check papers from anywhere under the testing standards. After the announcement of testing, we prepared reports in detailing the findings from the subjective exam of O-NET testing and presented them on the official website, which schools, students, and interested people can apply the useful information related to the testing results, and enhance teacher ability to change or adapt their teaching methods and learning management of Thai language in writing and reading to improve student skills in Thai reading and writing.

Furthermore, NIETS organized educational activities to support O-NET’s results application for improving quality of learning and teaching management, such as the workshop for executives of institutes, teachers, and educational officers nationwide, both online and onsite. This activity focuses on knowledge teaching, thinking and analysis leading, testing blue print building chart analysis, testing analysis, qualified testing creation, and information usage from national education testing results to make plans for learning and teaching improvement and to promote the level up of educational quality.

Recently, NIETS has developed online testing system for learning development, that is developed on web application in order to provide results presentations on monitors of different devices (Responsive Web) and to arrange testing on a variety of electronic equipment. The system serves students and interested people for knowledge testing, thinking skills analysis, and problem solving, in order to recognize their distinctive points and weaknesses for improvement, and further design study plans in the future. Moreover, we have an online training course on developing tools for learning measure and assessment in order to develop testing on the national digital testing platform with 17 forms. The O-NET results announcement will be provided on March 28, 2024, on the official website, www.niets.or.th. It also has testing results reporting individual information at multiple levels for person, school, the Educational Service Area Office, the Provincial Education Office, the Regional Education Office, affiliation, and nation, as well as, findings from subjective exam checking that are presented on the official website.

On this occasion, NIETS appreciated the Minister of Education (Police General Permpoon Chidchob) who had the honor to be the visiting leader of O-NET testing for secondary level 3, the Secondary Educational Service Area Office, the Primary Educational Service Area Office, the Provincial Education Office, the Office of the Private Education Commission, the Department of Education Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, and the Bureau of Education Pattaya as a total of 323 examination centers. The great cooperation from examination halls and relevant officers achieved testing operations according to national education testing standards.
