On Monday, February 3, 2025, the Deputy Minister of Education (Mr. Surasak Pancharoenworakul), Director of National Institute of Educational Testing Service (Public Organization), or NIETS, (Asst.Prof. Sirida Burachat Ph.D), Secretary-General of the Office of the Basic Education Commission (OBEC) (Acting Second Lieutenant Thanu Wongchinda), Director of Special Education Bureau (Mrs. Phattariyawan Phannoi), Director of the Primary Educational Service Area Office, Bangkok (Mr. Aekkawat Losuniran) and the team visited the examination hall of the Ordinary National Education Test (O-NET) for Grade 6, in the academic year 2024 at Piboon Prachasan school, while the school director (Dr. Suchart Banjongkarn), along with teachers gave welcome for all.

The Deputy Minister of Education said that he was very pleased to have the opportunity to visit the examination hall of O-NET for grade 6 students at Piboon Prachasan school, which organized the test using the Digital Testing system. From the past performance, it can be seen that NIETS has operated in accordance with the organization's missions, which are consistent with the focus of the Ministry of Education and the policy of the Minister of Education (Pol. Gen. Permpoon Chidchob) who desires to develop the quality of education by connecting with all sectors and promoting learners to be “Smart Learning, Smart Thinking, Smart Doing, and create a society of lifelong learning.” NIETS has developed a national educational test blueprint, focusing on assessing students' abilities to use knowledge and skills in their lives in the existing world. These policies also include the technology clear-cut utilization in missions, which is the digital system applied for testing. Moreover, it develops a training system for creating learning evaluation and assessment tools with online lessons for creating tests on the National Digital Testing Platform system in 17 formats. In addition, there are activities organized to promote and support the use of O-NET testing results to improve the quality of schooling management both online and onsite, emphasize giving knowledge, leading thinking, and leading action by organizing training courses for school directors, teachers, and educational personnel nationwide. In this regard, the Deputy Minister of Education, Mr.Surasak would like to commend and encourage NIETS, the original affiliations, examination centers, examination halls, and all related parties who have joined forces to perform the national educational testing smoothly.

The Director of NIETS, mentioned the overview of O-NET testing for grade 6 students in the academic year 2024, which has 4 subjects: Thai language, English language, Mathematics, and Science. There are a total of 708,246 eligible students, with 315 examination centers, 4,760 examination halls, and 25,775rooms. The testing was conducted by paper-pencil format and a digital testing system for the examination hall, which has prepared computer equipment and internet network systems, classified as (1) paper testing (paper-pencil) for 704,648 students, (2) digital testing system for 3,598 students.

NIETS has implemented its missions in line with the focus of the Ministry of Education and the policies of the Minister of Education (Pol. Gen. Permpoon Chidchob) and the Deputy Minister of Education (Mr. Surasak Pancharoenworakul) to encourage learners to be “Smart Learning (know what they should know), Smart Thinking (think logically), Smart Doing (do what is useful), and create a society of lifelong learning” under the National Educational Testing Standards, consisting of (1) Administration Standards, (2) Personnel Standards, (3) Development Standards, (4)Printing, Scoring, Grading, and Processing standards, and (5) Reporting and results utilization standards.

NIETS has continuously developed personnel in the field of national educational testing, both inside and outside the institution. There are training courses for Thai language teachers from all affiliations nationwide in subjective test marking. Teachers who pass the specified criteria will be selected as "NIETS Subjective Test Marking Teachers" and apply their knowledge in their classrooms. In addition, there are meetings to develop personnel related testing operation at the examination centers level, the examination halls level, for all types of testing to ensure that every national educational testing of NIETS is fair and transparent.

NIETS also has a system for reporting test results in the form of data visualization, reporting O-NET test statistics divided into 6 categories as follows: (1) National level, (2) Affiliation level, (3) Regional Education level, (4) Provincial level, (5) Area level, and (6) School level, so that students, teachers, directors, and original organizations can use the test results data to develop schooling management and improve academic achievement.

In addition, NIETS has promoted and improved the reading and writing skills of grade 6 students by developing subjective testing applied for the Thai language test in 2 questions: (1) writing a story from pictures, and (2)summarizing the main points of the reading passage, focusing on measuring the reading process, writing, and writing stories in various formats. After the test results were announced, NIETS produced a "Report on findings from the subjective examination" and published it on the NIETS website so that schools, students, and any interested persons can utilize the information from the subjective test results and encourage teachers to adjust their teaching methods of the Thai language subject in terms of reading and writing support.

On this occasion, NIETS would like to appreciate the Deputy Minister of Education for honoring us by presiding over the visiting of the O-NET examination hall. We would also like to give special thanks to the O-NET for grade 6examination centers, examination halls, and all relevant parties for their cooperation in conducting the national educational testing in accordance with the national educational testing standards.
