MOE delegated NIETS to assess Thai literacy regarding World Bank reported

On March 16, 2016 after meeting of Major Organizations of the Education Minister, General Dapong Ratanasuwan, Minister of Education focused to improve Thai literacy. Regarding National Statistical Office showed a third of Thais reading less than 30 minutes a day as well as World Bank reported the same figure of low reading achievement and incomprehensible reading. MOE has continued enhancing Thai literacy since A.Y.2015 and targeted 100% of grade 1 students' literacy by Brain-Based Learning and word spelling etc. So 7.37 % reduced to 5.71% of illiteracy from the first to the second semester of A.Y 2015 and continued reducing to 4.04% in January, 2016. The satisfied policy still has positively affected to other levels.
Assoc. Prof Dr. Kamjorn Tatiyakavee, Permanent Secretary for Education informed that discussion with National Institute of Educational Testing Service (NIETS) to study assessment of Thai literacy will be organized later.
